No paid placements. No sponsored results.

Every product in Juukbox earns its place in your results the same way: by how well it answers what you said you need. Visibility is not something we sell, and this is what that means in practice.

The line under the input

Under the box where you describe what you need, Juukbox prints one sentence: no paid placements or sponsored results; product visibility based solely on your priorities. It sits there on purpose. It is the promise the rest of the product is built to keep, and it is worth spelling out what it does and does not mean.

Why the promise matters

Most places people go to compare software are paid for, somewhere, by the vendors being compared. Sometimes that is a sponsored slot at the top of a list. Sometimes it is a ranking that moves when a budget moves. Sometimes it is simply that the products with the largest marketing teams have written the most pages about themselves. None of this is hidden, exactly, but it means the order you see is partly an order someone bought.

That matters more for software than for most purchases, because the cost of a wrong choice is not the license. It is the months a team spends adopting a tool that does not fit the way it works, and the months it spends leaving.

What decides what you see

In Juukbox the order starts with you. You describe the work, Otis turns that description into a decision profile of requirements, criteria and priorities you can edit, and products are matched against that profile. Each match carries its reasons: where the product fits what you said, and where it falls short.

Change a priority and the results change with it. Nothing else moves them. A vendor cannot pay to appear higher, cannot pay to appear at all, and cannot pay to have a shortcoming left out of the reasons.

Smaller products get a fair shot

A paid list tends to reward the products that can afford to pay. Removing payment from the order has a quieter effect too: smaller tools, free tools and open-source projects are considered on the same terms as household names, within the products the catalog covers. If the best fit for your team is something you have never heard of, it should still be able to reach you.

What the promise does not claim

It does not claim the catalog covers every product; it covers a growing set, and Juukbox does not pretend to know a product it doesn't have. And it does not claim a match is a verdict; a match is a set of reasons you can check and argue with.

What it means for vendors

Vendors sometimes ask how to do better in Juukbox. The answer is the one that helps buyers: say clearly, on your own site, what the product does, what it costs, what it requires and what it keeps safe. Juukbox can only reason from what is published, so a product whose pages answer those questions is easier to match accurately, and harder to leave out for lack of evidence.

Hold us to it

A promise like this is only worth something if it can be checked. Describe what you need in Juukbox, change your priorities, and watch what moves. If you ever see an order that looks bought, let us know through the contact page.
